Tony Robinson – Professor of Cunning at Oxford University

Born in London, England in 1946, Tony Robinson is an actor and producer with an extensive career in front of the camera spanning seven (yes, seven!) decades. Tony is perhaps best known for his portrayal of Baldrick in popular British series Blackadder. Bringing this character to life for the first time in 1983 in The Black Adder, he went on to play Baldrick in four series of the show, as well as several one off specials. In Blackadder Back and Forth (1999)he revisits all of the different incarnations of his beloved character over the years. 

Outside of Blackadder, Tony has appeared in many shows over the course of his career, including Smith and Jones (1984), The Young Ones (1984), Bergerac (1990) and Casualty (2000), the list is endless. Many fans will recognise him as the sheriff in Maid Marion and her Merry Men, a role he played over five years. He also played Vernon Crumley in Terry Pratchet’s Hogfather in 2006.

As well as being a talented actor, Tony has produced several documentaries such as Walking Through History. He produced the hugely popular Time Team, which ran for twenty years and explored different archeological sites throughout the UK. More recently, Tony produced a ten episode series called Tony Robinson’s Time Travel, in which he uncovers dramatic and bizarre stories from the past.

Also a talented writer, Tony has worked on many shows such as Jackanory and Tales from Fat Tulip’s Garden.
